In a historic moment for space exploration, the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft completed the first successful landing on the Moon’s South Pole.

Rakon congratulates ISRO on this groundbreaking achievement and we are incredibly proud to have several of our cutting-edge products onboard Chandrayaan-3’s lunar lander “Vikram”, and rover “Pragyan”.

The mission will explore the lunar South Pole, an area thought to be rich with water ice, or frozen water, that could be a source of oxygen, fuel and water for future moon missions or a more permanent moon colony. Our products are playing a critical role by providing precise location and timing references for the lander and rover navigation systems.

Thanks to our presence in India we've had the privilege of partnering with ISRO for the last 15 years, allowing Rakon to develop groundbreaking products for critical Indian space programmes including the Chandrayaan moon missions and the Mars orbiter mission Mangalyaan, as well as upcoming programmes Aditya L1 (mission to study solar atmosphere) and Gaganyaan (part of the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme).

Rakon has a proud 40-year legacy of working with leading space agencies ISRO, NASA and ESA (European Space Agency) to deliver cutting-edge products for over 50 international space programmes, including: Sentinel, Galileo, Rosetta and Mars Perseverance. More recently our products took flight in April 2023 onboard the European Space Agency’s JUICE mission to observe Jupiter and its moons for signs of life.

We’ve also established ourselves in the fast growing NewSpace and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite ecosystem – with our latest NewSpace GNSS receiver product being used in an earth observation satellite launched in April 2023.

A more detailed list of the International Space programmes Rakon has supported can be found on our ‘Space Solutions’ webpage.
