MercuryX OCXOs provide ultra-high stability and an extended holdover of 8 hours in real world conditions, all in a small form factor package size. They are an excellent fit for timing and synchronisation in AI computing/datacentres and 5G, 5G Advanced and 6G telecommunications networks as well as satellite terminals and instrumentation.
The first product in the range is the ROM1490X in a 14 x 9 mm package, to be followed by a 7 x 5 mm product in mid 2024.

Key technologies
MercuryX OCXOs bring together a number of Rakon proprietary technologies, all working together to achieve increasingly better oscillator performance.
Mercury+ ASIC
The Mercury ASIC was first developed in 2010, enabling us to create the world's smallest OCXO at the time. Since then we have built a successful track record of consistently delivering high-quality ASIC-based OCXOs (IC-OCXOs) in large volumes. The upgrade of the ASIC in 2016 (Mercury+) has resulted in new series of products that provide the perfect fit for applications such as advanced Remote Radio Heads (RRH), small cells, optical networks and microwave transmission. Today, we are combining the Mercury+ ASIC with our next-generation XMEMS quartz technology under the brand MercuryX™, resulting in a three-fold performance increase compared to the current range of IC-OCXOs.
XMEMS resonator
All MercuryX-based oscillators feature our new crystal MEMS technology, XMEMS. High Q XMEMS resonators are designed and manufactured by Rakon using a proprietary wafer-level photolithographic process. The technology is a game-changer within the crystal oscillator industry, allowing for increasingly higher oscillator performance in smaller sizes. XMEMS crystals bring significantly better g-sensitivity, hysteresis and frequency slope compared to traditional crystal resonators.
Kelvin™ Temperature Sensor
In addition to the XMEMS crystal and Mercury+ ASIC, the new MercuryX products also feature our proprietary Kelvin temperature sensor technology. This results in more accurate temperature compensation, which in turn improves the stability and airflow sensitivity performance of the oscillator.
